TR6 question

A friend and I just got done installing TR6's on my L. We ran out of time to put the rest of the mods on and I am wondering if it is ok to run the TR6's gapped at .40 with the rest of the motor stock until I can get the pulley and chip installed. On the way home I got service engine soon light, but came to find out that I forgot to plug on of the coil packs in.

Bye the way, I NEVER WANT TO CHANGE THE PLUGS AGAIN. Plugs 5,7,8 suck really bad. We now hold the record for the longest plug install. I think I will stick with changing plugs on the pre-80's cars, the GTO is so much more simple.

Thanks

Would anyone think using the TR6s would fix my hesitant throttle response? Just trying to weed out more options...i'm using stock plugs now

You mention Chip-n-Pulley. I HOPE IT'S NOT A 6LB Pulley.
If it is, the TR-6's MIGHT eventually melt, MINE DID, and so did LOTS OF OTHER PEOPLES. I think WE ALL WILL AGREE 4lbs of extra Boost is the most you should run with TR-6's.

But as for running it stock, no problem at all.

I think that we should all agree that LESS than 4 LBS
can use the TR6's, but 4 and above need something
a bit cooler..... Denso's if your RICH, BR7EF's for us
cheap bastids.

Rob, I toasted mine with the 4 LB all by itself ... <grin>

It all depends on the tune on your chip. A safe tune will keep you from burning up plugs.

Thats what I thought too Spanky, but even with a mild program, I toasted mine. I'm with SVY KY on this one. What I use to think, and what I think after this

is two differant things. Good for stock, a 2 or 3 lb Pulley, but 4 and above IS PUSHING YOUR LUCK

I agree with Spanky, its not the plugs its the Tune. Everything must be right or something will give. I've ran TR5's for over 13 months with 6#'s of Boost and running in the low 12's at the track with a program for 101 octane fuel. I read my plugs nearly every month and haven't had a problem yet. You have to get the right combo. There are some things that can go wrong still, like a bad fuel pump or clogged filter. You have to take care of everything.

Ummmm .... To quote the tuner of the chip I was running when
I fried mine.... "You have a very safe tune ... That's what we give
all the 2002 customers"

Didn't help ... I personally think it's the plugs composition
and the fact that they are a "hot" plug in that the anode
extends far into the cylinder and the combustion area.

The BR7's on other hand are very well protected from that
exposure, and mine look great now ('course, I did change
tuners there in mid-stream too! )

It's a regular case of "You bet your Truck", isn't it? I like
where I'm at now ... The beast is pulling stronger than ever,
and seems to be very safe.

I'm running TR6's with a 4lb lower and a 2lb upper now. Just to seee how the truck runs and so far its been great even in the cold air. I got them gapped at about .030 but they work nice. I got BR7's and IT 24's but the TR6's seem to run the strongest for me. and there smoother to me also.

RTKilla: They probably "run smoother" because they are a hotter heat range--less chance of a low rpm misfire(like the BR7s low rpm misfiring that I get) but you're taking a big risk as detonation can pop up anytime. The shorter center electrode and insulator of the colder BR7s takes the heat out of the combustion chamber out quicker and keeps uncontrolled firing from happening .

Hey Rod, I have a set of the TR6's sitting in my garage waiting to go in. Have you tried the Tr6's at all? I have the exact mods as you and am running the stock(you read right) plugs and seems to run great. Do your BR7's run rough? Smooth? I am interested in the right plug application, myself.

I bring this up for discussion as I really don't know. But I think these mods help in addition to having proper A/F and Timing to go with the Octane.

1. 160 thermostat

2. intercooler fans

3. JL Powercooler especially over 2# Pulley

4. Shift Points no higher than 5500

I have ran Tr5s for two years with no problems.
New Best 11.82 1.64 60ft.

Looking at Rob 02s Plugs and then reading in MM&FFs that the Fridge did the same makes me nervous I Admit.
