What would you pay for a 2002
What is a reasonable price to ask of a dealer on a 2002 considering:
A) They've been on the lot since Feb-Mar.
B) I could buy a 2003 on x-plan for 29,xxx
Since I can get 2003 on x-plan I won't buy 2002 unless the price is bellow that. What's a reasonable offer?

I would say about $5000.00 less for what you can get a new one for (depends on mileage and condition though). The only other thing to consider is what sort of mods may be done to the used one. That might make the used one worth a little more, but only if the mods are something that you think are worth it to YOU. Don't pay extra for mods that you wouldn't put on your own truck. When buying used, always start low and you need to be willing to walk away. If you act desperate, the seller has you where he wants you. I've had dealers and individuals literally follow me out to my car, only to cave in and sell me the vehicle for my offered price. What is the person asking for the 2002 L? Good luck on your purchase.

I think that he is referring to a new 2002 leftover on the dealer lot. The dealers that I have seen will only drop about $1,000 below invoice and they will not usually do that until March or April of next year. If they will sell you a 03 on x-plan and you are not in a hurry, I would probably wait.

Now that I have read it again, I realize you were talking about a new truck. I would assume it should be worth about $2000.00 below a comparable 2003. It really depends on what you want. I would hit them low ($5000.00 off) and ****er with them. The dealer doesn't want to hang on to old inventory any longer than they have to. If you're not getting anywhere, then walk away. You will see how badly they want the sale. Don't seem to eager, and let them know that you have your eyes on some other ones elsewhere. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.

Good advice thanks alot. I've been playing that little "have my eyes on some elsewhere" game and nobodys really bit yet. I'm not sure if they know how serious I really am about buying this truck. I've had an offer for mid 29'xxx but I'm still holding out though. Anyway, I appreciate the advice.

Jrudd,
Not to disagree with you, but there is no harm in making a rediclously low offer. The worst they can do is tell you no. Big deal. I've been told no many times and still been able to make a deal. If they don't counter, that doesn't keep VTSVT from coming back and raising his offer. My opinion is, for $1000.00 less than a 2003, I would buy the 2003. They would have to make a better offer than that if they wanted to sell me their left over 2002 inventory.
