Everything is a set ratio. At x rpms with a gear ratio x you will go x mph. 3rd gear is a ratio of 1 for the 4R100. SO if you were at 5800 rpms, which you werent, but close to, with a 3.73 ratio and the stock F-1 tires...28.5", the fastest you can physically go in 3rd gear is 131.84mph. Your factory speedo of course is off, especially at WOT. http://www.angelfire.com/fl/procrastination/rear.html In overdrive with I believe a ratio of .67 or something, the fastest you could go would be 196.7.

 

I drive a 2000 that has the 3.55 gears in it, not 3.73s. My tires are also .4" shorter, so my speedo is slightly off (mathematically, 1.2% fast), which also means I was probably really close to topping out my 3rd gear when it said 127... According to the "speed calculator" posted above, my max with 28.1" tires I have no should be ~133 at my stock shift (5650 right?).

Here's Ford's specs for my gearing:

1st 2.71 45 mph
2nd 1.53 80 mph
3rd 1.00 125 mph
4th 0.71 140 mph (areo limited)

I can also say that "theoretically" with my suspension layout, I have been faster then 140...

So is everyone saying that OD (4th gear) ""WILL"" shift by it self if I forget to push the button ????

I didn't think it was capable of going 130 either in 3rd, (give or take a few) But it seems I did it yesterday ??? I see the Pawn did 127 in 3rd so I guess with a 5800 Rev Limiter it is possible to go a few more.

Thanks Reality, so w/ 4.10's you go through at 5250, thats perfect, I may consider those gears. Did it improve your ET ?
