94 Cavalier VL Coupe
Since I live in New York and we get plenty of crappy winter days here, I went out and picked up a 4 cylinder beater for $2000 from my friends Grandpa. My first choice was a Jeep Wrangler 5-speed.
Now my fuel **** sits in the garage and I take the beater to work everyday. A second car is a great investment, and insurance is only $358 per YEAR.
I've replaced the struts, shocks, brakes, carpet, muffler and did a tune-up.
I'm ready for E-Brake 360's in the parking lot at work come the first snow fall.

'87 Ford EXP
You hear all this talk about these being disposable cars, but this one wont die. I've had it since '88 and it now has 228,000 miles on it. It came from the factory as an NA car but in the early '90's I installed a turbo kit and a bunch of handling parts from BAT Ltd. It was a real screamer back in the day. Now it's back to an NA car, I sold all my go fast parts to a kid with an Escort GT. the paint faded really bad on it about 6 years ago and I kinda lost interest but it's a great beater. I think it's gonna run forever

Well, I don't own a L but I do have a beater...
I just bought a Fire engine Red '87 Honda Civic SI, 5 speed with a sunroof that I drive back and forth to work (short drive). That little sucker screams and gets my manual/sports car craving filled. Well, before I get crucified LOL it's not fast like an L, but I'm hittin 70 in a 45 before I know it (OH SHEEIT! COP!!! LOL) and I don't think I use more than about .10-15 cents in gas a day whereas before, I know I was forking out $3-4/day getting that big V-8 warmed up. Now I am cutting back on the wear and tear on the truck and I only fill the truck up every week and a half to 2 weeks. Also, the amount of miles I put on the truck has been cut by over 70%! As for the Honda, I fill it up for $8 and I have been going over 2 weeks on the same tank... I can't believe it, I figure I am saving well over a $100/month on gas alone - that's money I can put towards MODS!
Here is the clincher, I bought that Honda with right about 115k miles (on an 87!) and only paid $1100. Only thing I needed to do was put a radio in and I got an open box from Best Buy for $50. Not too shabby... I've only had the Honda for about a month now and I've already put well over 1k miles on it, that's miles that would've been on the truck.
I sure do wish that Ford would offer that S-Charged 5.4 in a Screw with 4x4... I'd be on that like a hobo on a bologne sandwich!
Later!

Here it is. Not a beater, but it is the winter/wife's car. May have to get a beater though, because the rocks that the DOT puts down is h&ll on the paint!

Speedbump- my first car was a 1984 EXP! I had it for about a year before I got a Ranger, but I will never forget that thing. It had like 80 horsepower or something. Can't you get lawn tractors with 80 HP nowadays?
