Racing in 2nd gear
I know, i know street racing is bad but i cant help myself. Anyway I plan on adding a chip and maybe a 6lb pulley to help me out(btw any suggestions on what types and such to run enlighten me, im a beginner when it comes to this stuff) but if i start in 2nd gear will it give me more power? less power? and will it hurt the truck?

Try this to get optimum heat in your rear tires: Put it in the R gear (racing gear, remember), nail it and hold it for a few seconds. Then quickly grab the gear lever and slam it into 1. Hold the engine a WOT. Don't worry about overrevving.

If you cant get out the hole in 1st you can start in 2nd. When I got my 20's from the guy they had 255/35/20 tires and hooking up was a joke. I could start in 2nd and only have to shift one time and still ran 12.90's. All it does it make you have less low end power. Kind of makes your tranny act like a POWERGLYDE!!!
SO to answer, yes it can be done if you cant get the truck to launch using first gear.

I remember a caranddriver or motortrend???? article that said quote "best times were achieved by putting the transmission in second gear and nailing the throttle off the line" or something like that.
I think that was in 99??
Maybye 2000.. but the truck wouldnt hook , and they figured why not just smoke the clutchplates??
Anybody?
