Yeah, I'll admit it, and I hope I'm not the only one to make this mistake....
Having been drag racing for some 12 or 13 years now, this move really wins the Dumb Dumb of the year award.
Hadn't been to Atco in a long time, so I wasn't sure how far up to stage....So I deep staged a little to far and both lights turned off...No big deal right, we've all done that....However, I backed up a little bit to bring the lower light back on, and what do you know????? I left the truck in reverse....The tree came down and I buried the throttle and went about 10 feet backwards...threw it back into drive and made the pass....14.49.....Funny thing is, I still beat the ricer that was next to me.....HaHa...The track attendents must have definitely thought ROOKIE...Oh well sh!#@t happens and we had a great day anyway....

At the Domestic VS Rice shotout in MD 3 weeks ago they had a guy do the same thing in a BADA$$ Trans Am, luckly neither of you hit the person behind you!!

 

 

Well, I have yet to do that, but if it helps, your 'approach' to running the 1/4 was still faster than my first run at Atco last Friday night with my L.

I was the first one to run that night. Me in the left and some rice POS in the right. Went through the water box and smoked the F1's a little, dry hopped it(seemed ok), then staged. Stalled it to 1,200 rpm, tree came down and I rolled into it. Instantly spun into 2nd,,,,then 3rd. Let off the gas - back on, still spinning. One more time off then on (meanwhile the sushi machine is driving away from me...) - spinning w/ the azz end fishtailing a bit. I just mashed it and rode it out. Managed to beat the 'competition's' 16.60 pass. I ran a stellar 16.16 @ 99.:o Think that was the slowest ET I've ever had, in any car I've ever raced! Fortunately it got better. After that I was turning low 1.9 60's w/ a best of 1.89, and got a new best w/ my JL 2lb. pulley. NO chip - yet.

The way you should tell this story is ......I spotted this Honda (or whatever it was) 3 and a half cars at the track and still picked him up on the big end.

Now doesn't that sound better?? If someone asks how could you spot car lengths at the track thats when you put your beer down and look them straight in the eye and say "its very tricky".

 

I pulled that stunt in an 11 second Grand National about 10 years ago.....Damn near pasted my face on the inside of the windshield.
Track anouncer made fun of it, everybody saw it etc. etc.

 

Damn Nasty...You defenitely can tell a great story.....BTW don't you agree that black is the fastest color.

Hopefully though, I won't be telling that story anymore
