Speaking of snow and winter, any of you all ever dropped the blower belt for snow? Thinking it could REALLY help out.

That and of course winter tires...

I second that Rob. last year it really didn't even snow, as far as the roads were concerned.

For those that cannot afford a winter "beater", I'm in the same boat. Driving the L in the snow is not fun however, it sure stops those speeding tickets. Besides, it's hard to find a winter beater anymore. If you want something that is going to last at least the whole winter you'll have to shell out $1,000 - $1,500 around here. Then, the insurance on top of that and fixing all the things that break down a week after you buy one. Or how about being 20 miles from home and the thing breaks down? I'm sure some of you have found beaters that have lasted and were worth the $. Cheers to you! Wanna sell it?

Get about #500 in the a$$ of the truck and stay outta the boost! I drove two winters like that on f1 tires with NO problem. Add snow tires and you are even better off.

Now I have a winter beater so I don't get salt on my L. That was the only thing that ever bothered me was the salt.

Man.....I second the salt thing....makes me sick! But the worst is all the rock chips I get going to work down town on I94! I need a missile launcher to take out the rock trucks!

In regards to the snow....I have to say my used 17" f150 wheels/tires I bought (with Goodyear RT/S's) work excellent! Don't get me wrong...if you get on it forget it but absolutely no problems....yet

yes, my truck looks goofy with 31" tires, the speedo reads slower and the odo reads slower but I feel TEN times safer in the snow now!

A pair of Blizzaks would cure that problem for the most part. Tires are the most important part of ice/snow driving. Heck, even when I had a GTI a few years back, that thing wouldnt go over this mountain in the snow. Backed down the mountain, an hour later I was driving up it again, but this time with snow tires. The difference was amazing. Without the snows the car would slow and start sliding to the curb. With the snows, I actually stopped on the hill to see if I could start up again. Absolutely no problem. So if you must drive the L in the snow....Sand bags and snow tires. Not so say you could traverse a huge hill, but slight inclines wouldnt be a problem.

I had the same prob yester, I was going everywhere but straight. I found that if you just gun it, you eventually just melt the snow and catch some pavement. It sucks for the person behind you though cause you are kicking up 400 hp worth of snow/sand at there car, but screw em

I have slicks, er I mean bald tires on the rear of my GTI. Everytime I take a turn a little to much it turns into an e-brake turn without pulling the e-brake.

Makes for interesting driving

yeah i tested out dry traction the other day w/ my snow tire, i was at 40mph, floored it (first time since the tire change) and i was instantly sideways. but they are great in snow!

yes i do agree salt sucks, but i will have to sacrifice some money this winter, all i do is wash my truck as much as possible. snowed on monday, i washed on tues, wednes, friday...... so 1 time a week is just turning into about 3-6 times.

I use the L all winter

but not with the F-1'. I have a set of Exposition rims and Bridgestone Winter Beaters. Have had no problems.

It's in the garage

Thats my $300 winter beater I bought in 99. Insurance is $180 per year with a multi-car discount of $100, so insurance is $80
