Speed or anyone else that might know,

I ordered the camera off of Ebay, that Speed has. It should be here in a couple days. I was just curious how you wired it in. I have heard of people splicing it right into the the reverse lights. This way, the 7015 will automatically pick up the signal and switch to the back-up cam. I was curious what wires (Color codes) that I would need to use to do this little mod. Thanks in advance... I know I can count on you all!

If and when I get this vibe issue resolved I'll be adding a few cam's myself. One on the rear end and would also like to put one somewhere on the front end just for fun.

What kind of RCA cable did you guys use? Any special braided type that will hold up to the elements?

Does the backup camera have a dedicated video port? I have an xbox connected to my video port now and would like to add a camera but need to know if I will need a switch?
Thanks!!

I think for that a splitter is just fine. Only thing I could see as a problem is if your going in reverse and using the xbox at the same time when both video feeds are active. I'm looking for a switch as I want to go with 2 cam's and 1 AUX.

Idea:
Maybe, if you wanted to really have some fun, you could wire in a relay at the Reverse Sensor, so that when it is shifted into reverse, the relay goes on and sends power to the backup camera? I dunno if it would work... if not, lemme know why. I'll try to get it to.

LeClarion,
That is what I was talking about. Some of the guys on here are wiring the power lead on the camera, to the power supply for the back-up lights. You will not need a relay for this, just wire it straight in. So, when you put your truck into reverse, it powers the camera, and Whala ! The DDX-7015 has a setting for "Auto" on the camera, so when it is powered, it picks it up and shows your camera view. Once you take it out of reverse, it goes back to the last screen you were viewing on the 7015.

about the camera

hey man, you have done a great job with this. i own a F-150 '03 and i just got my DDX7015. Unfortunalty, i will need to modifiy the dash to fit it. about the camera, can you adjust the focus and the zoom? how wide is the view of the camera? i want to fit one as well, in the bumper. but the hole is right by the car plate in the deep portion of the bumper. i wonder if the viewing would be good because of the edge that could block the vision.

Just got the 7015 and 4100 Nav combo installed and I have 2 problems:

1) There is no voice guidance when Nav is on. Map and directions are accurate but no voice even after setting up the audio. Any ideas what may be causing this?

2) The installer put a toggle switch for the backup camera so that I have to turn the switch and switch the input on the screen. The camera does not automatically come on when on reverse. Is there a way to wire it so that the screen comes on automatically when on reverse AND be able to manually turn it on at any time?

Thanks!

hyacinth,

Your answer is in this thread. Most have wired them to the reverse lights. When put in reverse, they get power and the HU auto switches to that input. I'd probably go with a switch though because I plan to use a cam in a horse trailer and I want it to work in drive as well.

Does anyone have the nav unit for this? Where did you mount it? Does it have bo lay horizontal? If the DVD will 'snap' into place on the tray, I was thinking about putting it in the glovebox.

Thanks,

I will be getting that NAV unit in the near future. I was thinking about mounting it under the passenger seat. Don't know if it will fit or not.

I was told by a guy who installs radios that the slot for a HU in a 2004 F-150 is not large enough to accomodate a DDX-7015 and that part of a brace would need to be cut away in the back. Is this something that everyone with that HU has had to do, or was this guy crazy? Also in the pics of the DDX-7015's installed in the F-150 there is a black frame surrounding it. What brand/part is that?
Thanks

Thanks for the answer 03. One other thing I've noticed throughout this thread is that of all the places suggested to get a DDX-7015, no one has suggested e-bay. I've seen it go on there for as low as $799. Does no one else think this is an acceptable place to get one?
