Anyone replaced their front seats?
Hi all, the captain chair on my 97 is not too comfortable anymore on long trips. Wondering if anyone replaced their seats yet?
Flofits I heard went out of business due to bad reputation, can't afford Recaro seats(1000.00+) yet. Anyone have any idea or experience with aftermarket seats? Thanks.

MIF,
I have actively been pursuing a replacement seat for my 99 for some time. I just don't like the 60/40 split. My hard work may have paid off for you.
It appears that the best thing to do (and probably cheapest for you) is to have your seat repadded at an upholstery shop. As far as aftermarket replacement seats, Recaro has everyone beat. They are the only ones I that I would even consider other than a used set of factory captains chairs.
There is one custom truck co. that sells some of the aftermarket seats they install in new trucks. I think it is MarkIII in Ocala, Fl. do a search in dogpile to confirm this.
I still think you would be better to have your seats repadded (I think 99-00 padding is different and holds up better). Just be glad you don't have the 60/40 seat, the armrest is never in the right spot, the cupholder sucks, and there is next to no storage in it. Comfort has been improved over 97-98 though.

IF either of you decide to get rid of your seats I would be interested. I have an XL and it has the vinly bench seat, and it isn't too comfortable.

I did this to my wife truck(she still makes me drive the 1992 F150)
Took a 1/4 steel plate and cut it into two 2"X 2" squares. then cut a 3/8" hole in the middle of it. Removed the drivers seat and placed the steel squares on the back mounts and reintstalled the seat. This made the seat much more comforable when riding and didn't degrade any safety feature that I could see. Seat mounted just as solidly as before.
