Question 1994 F150 XL (4.9L I6, standard cab)

I recently bought myself the truck listed in the title. I am planning on replacing the exhaust and intake (2.5"-3" maybe, and a cold air intake). I want a nice low sound, but not an obnoxiously loud one...just to the point to turn heads as I drive by

any suggestions? (parts, prices, brands...maybe any other things to add into my list of to do's)

Maganaflow. I've heard 6's with all kinds of exhuast and the Maggie is the nicest. A lower rumble, not loud and crackly like Flows, cherry bombs, glass packs, etc.

Psst....not gonna work very well on an I-6 motor. Sure, it can be done, but it will need new headers in order to do that...

1 of the biggest mistakes iv ever done was putting flow masters on my inline 6 was that ever a mistake ' i was hopping for that rumble i wanted and it sounded like complete crap' i was so embarased:o iv never did my homework first but you will find some awnsers here. Lets just say it sounds alot better on a V8

i agree with the other guys at the top flowmasters sound really good on v-8s but not an inline 6 they have an entirely different sound even from a v-6. for the exhuast find some muffler shops and ask questions to the guys who do exhasuts everyday. as for the intake they're all pretty much the same it is a matter of personal preference, i run the K&N 77 series and only noticed a resonance at 2300-3000 on 2/3 -3/4 throttle conditions like freeway onramps.(plus it was cheaper than an fipk kit for my application)

All Fords come from the factory with cold-air intakes. Read the RESULTS pages of Project MPG.

Psst... '87-up 4.9Ls come from the factory with dual "header-style" exhaust manifolds.
