Question CB's (where to mount it)

I am thinking about getting into CB's and was wondering where the people who have them, have them mounted, and what brands they have.
thanks in advance

I've got a Uniden PC76-XLW and a K-40 antenna. I haven't mounted it in the truck yet, but it's either going on the front of the center console in front of the cup-holders, or on the lower dash panel in front of it. (I haven't decided yet) Either way, it's also getting an aux. speaker mounted on the driver's side trim above the door, as well as a PA under the hood when I get around to it. I think I'm also going to have them mount the antenna base in the roof, but I just don't have the heart to drill a big hole in the roof just yet.

Incidentally, I've also run that same radio through a Wilson Lil'Wil compact antenna as well, and still gotten phenominal reception. The radio's been peaked to 4 watts and matched to the antennas. In both cases, it puts out about 6-7 miles, but can only pull in about 4 or 5 with the engine running.... lots of static through the cig lighter plug, but I've run a wire direct from the battery for it in the new truck.

heya dude dont use your cig plug to wire the cb in your going to get alot of noise from your alternator. What you can do is a NBL filter from radio crap and put it on the line but i recommend running a hot line straigt from the battery! Late!

Yeah, I know about the noise issue. For this one, I mounted a relay under the hood with a switch in my overhead console for the relay. The power passes through the relay en route to the CB. I'm not real fond of having a non-switched power source for an accessory because I don't drive the truck every day, so I don't want to find it dead one weekend because I forgot to turn off the CB. I think this will work well.

I've got a remote mount Cobra. The only thing you see is the mike and it's cord.
Everything is in the handset, and the install is almost too easy. It has a 2"x4"
box that mounts under the dash, the antenna and external speaker plug into
this box. I use a magnet mount antenna
over the slider, and routed the cable down
the pass. side sill to the rem. box. I also used a Cobra ext. speaker and mounted
it above the drivers side upper seatbelt mount. The best feature of the whole system is the NOAA Weather receiver! You can pick up forecasts and severe weather warnings across the country.
The CB model # is the 75WXST, and with all the features it has,it's not too pricey($120 average) Sorry this sounds like an infomercial but it's worth the money.... You can also buy the under dash box seperately, and move the CB between multiple vehicles.,,,,98

The weather alert has saved my butt a few times. (no b.s!) Check one out,,,98

Cool

They are seperate,,,Darn it! I tried to reply yesterday and it didn't go through! I used the Cobra ext. speaker because The one in the handset
can only be heard if you hold it up to your ear. I used a Radio Shack antenna, this one has a streamlined black base, and a
fiberglass shaft. Looks great and works as well as the Lil Wil I had on it before. The Wilson looks like a 1970's design,it needs to be updated, bad.
Sheez, bomber,,,I wish I got mine that cheap! I bought mine right after they came out,and from a CB specialty store, too. I have seen it for $120 in other dealers as well. But $89 is incredible!!
Jump on that one, cooltrucks!! It's the best price your going to find....,,,,,98

That looks like exactly what I need for my Probe... I have no roomfor a full size radio, and even the smaller ones are too bulky... I could mount that one behind the center console and never have to look at it... Me Thinks Me Likes. :-)

I have a cobra 20, really similar to the 19 model:

http://www.cobraelec.com/scripts/sho...=new/18wx.html

It has a front mounted speaker and weather channels. I would HIGHLY recommend to get a CB with a front mounted speaker. It makes it so you can actually hear something.

I have it mounted under the drivers seat. I have a 5 sp 4x4 with the manual transfer case, so there was not anywhere else to mount it. I was thinking on the headliner, but passed for now. I may get a shelf and then install the unit in there.
