F150 Emblems

F150 Emblems
I bought some rims from a guy a few days ago and noticed his F150 emblems on his 2000' Supercrew were solid chrome. I asked him where he got them from and he said, "What do you mean?" and I said, "Your emblems" and he said, "No, those are factory" and told me how to go about doing it. He said to take fishing string and put it between the fender and the logo and pull it through, but I tried that and the string ended up breaking 3 or 4 times before I took a long skinny flathead and removed them. I have them sitting on my desk and I took "carberetor cleaner" and sprayed them down and it removed all of the black paint around the F150 logo. They're all chrome now and look good.
Anyone else know about this?

I tried doing it with the emblems on the truck, but I got nervous that some of the cleaner might run under the tape and end up damaging my paint, so I pulled them off., but yes, they do look good.

Acetone works great, just have to be patient. It will end up looking like this.

3M does make automotive grade double tape if you did.
The 2 I left on and acetoned, I just waxed all around the emblem, taped of the paint and took my time wiping the black paint off.
The only reason I removed one was it was black and not chrome.
Acetone will not harm your paint if it is not left on for a long period.
The main reason for taping off is to make sure you dont get any of the black from the emblem on your paint.
After I removed all the black from the emblem, I removed the tape, washed the area well and applied wax.

The correct way to reattach them I believe is to use an emblem adhesive, 3m makes one, my local auto parts store (Murray's) carries it.
