Spool in 8.8 w/ c-clip

Can a person run a spool in a Late model 8.8" Rearend with the C-clips?. Also what is the spline count on the '97 F150 4x4s 8.8 axle?

Thanks much,
Abrams

They are 31 spline axles. As far as a spool, I don't know. But check out the new Eaton E Locker. That looks really good and offers the flexiblity of both an open diff and a spool.

I think the E locker would be great. But, my wallet does't think so... A spool would work well for what I need. I put a later model 8.8 in my 92 F150 and I only drive the thing in the woods and what not around my place. I am building it into a pure trail vehicle.

I would be cheaper to weld up the gears on the one you have. But, Auburn Gear makes a mimi spool that works with C clips. Check out http://www.auburngear.com/aftermarket/products/spools/

Look at the installation instructions as there is a note about C clips.
