Rear end damage repair or swap

I took my truck in for rearend noise and they told me the spider gears are toast and the case is scorched, They won't replace it under warranty because they say they were damaged from spinning the tires. So my question is do I find replacement parts or change the gears to another ratio? and which way will be cheaper?

If the housing is toasted then it'd be cheaper to swap in a whole new axle. Otherwise you're gonna have so much labor in trying to replace the center housing.

Unlawful,

I agree with PS73. Having the parts replaced will be a major expence. When I toasted my 3rd rear end (8.8 POS) I replaced the whole thing with a complete 9.75. How did you manage to fry a 9.75?

same thing here!,

but was lucky enough not replace the r&p, just the carrier and the spiders, and everything else that goes with it...races, bearings and the such. and all it cost was 1400!

good luck with what you choose!

I blew out four 8.8's. I would swap the whole thing. I bought my 9.75 posi with discs from a junkyard for $1250. It costs over a thousand to rebuild one with the carrier and the ring and pinion. Not to mention fifteen bucks a quart times three for Ford's synthetic gear oil. It was a breeze to swap. I had to replace the right axle that was bent but that was easy too and allowed me to change the fluid while I had it apart. One of my 8.8's had an Eaton posi and Yukon gears and that still didn't hold. Good luck.
