ticking noise

It could be the E-brake cable slapping the frame. I did some testing with a large cable tie and it stopped the ticking I heard. I noticed that on newer models there is a bracket mounted there now probably for that reason. You can see it from the rear driverside wheel well. If you have an older truck the wire tie trick will work but you may wear through the brake cable coating causing it to rust and seize. I cut mine off soon after my test for that reason. If I get a chance I am going to purchase the new bracket and mount it. It holds the cable away from the frame.

Ticking Noise
All, I had a similar problem with both front wheel/brake areas. Applying the brakes or turning, I heard the ticking noise which decreased as speed of tire rotation decreased. The noise has progressively gotten worse over the past month. I fixed it today with the help of a 4 x 4 specialist who did most of the hard work on my truck. The silver anti-lock grease on my hubs, behind the wheels had worn off up in the snow/rain and my wheels were actually creaking. I removed both wheels, cleaned off the hubs and back of the wheels, then re-applied the silver anti-lock/freeze grease, and guess what, the ticking is completely gone!! I thought he was crazy, but in my case it worked. My wheels are hub-centric and rest directly on the hub and apparently the rain, snow, and washing the truck will wear down this grease. My plan is to re-apply every time I rotate the tires. I hope this might help at least one of you. Steve
