Motorsport Rear end gasket?

Hi-

Does Ford Mo Sport make a rear end gasket for the 8.8's?

If so, does anyone have the part number?

Thanks,

I am sure they do but I do not have a part's number for it. When I did my rear-end fluid change I took the cover off so as to flush all the old gear oil out. I did not use a gasket but a high temp RTV. When I called one of the dealers in my area they said they did not have any gaskets and asked why did I want to use one since it came from the factory without one to begin with.

He was right, it just had black RTV on it. I changed my rear-end oil at approx. 25,000 miles, truck now has approx. 36,000 miles no leaks at all.

Hope that helps a little.

01 XLT-

Yup, it does help. I'll be doing the differential fluid when I change the tranny fluid, in July. Still haven't decided on the gasket, but I like your idea about the high temp. RTV. Makes sense, didn't come with a gasket, so why add one.

Thanks for the help!

I changed my rear diff oil a couple of months ago and used RTV sealant and put a generous amount on and still had a leak. Ford Motorsport does make a gasket for the 8.8. I didn't know that until after I had purchased one at an AutoZone. I think it was a Felpro. Anyhow I installed the gasket with some sealant and no leaks. I personnally do not like that RTV crap.

Felpro makes a gasket. I've had nothing but trouble with this rear end leaking ever since I bought it 3 years ago, and everytime I changed it.

Anyway, I bought a new cover 3 weeks ago, used Ultra black, and it still leaked.

Went to the local supply house and bought a gasket.

I used Permatex 2B from the tube on both sides and put Ultra black in the bolt holes. No leaks, no leaks, no leaks, whew. It was getting old. Got 2,000 miles on it now, and still no leaks.

Maybe you others had a slightly bent cover that was helping to cause the leak? I used just regular high temp RTV (orange) an no problems what so ever.

Yes, they do make a gasket but none is needed, they do not come from the factory with one. The trick is to use a bead of at least 1/4" thick and go completely around the bolt holes. Like I said I did mine at about 20,000 miles and now have 36,500 on it with not one drop of a leak.

When I say bead I mean just that 1/4" wide by 1/4" high you do NOT want to spread out the RTV by hand...

01,

I hear you. This must have been the rear housing from hell. I've never used the gasket on any of my other 8 trucks, or my Cobra.
Anyway, it is not leaking now, so it must have wanted it.
