Low speed shudder / High speed shudder

Hey all,

About 3 months ago, I changed all but plugs #4, #7 and #8 (couldn't reach at the time).

About 2 months ago, the truck (99 F-150 5.4V8 2WD Auto 105k miles) started shuddering at low speeds when accelerating, kind of like a hesitation. Also would shudder at higher speeds, usually in OD at 50 mph and accelerating.

After two weeks, I changed the last 3 plugs, replaced o-rings on the injectors. Low speed hesitation went away, still hesitates at high speed though

Also, twice now it has accelerated on it's own while driving like I pushed in an imaginary clutch and went up to 3500 rpm (remember, it's an auto)

Now the last two days on my drive to work (12 miles one-way) it has died within 500 yards of the same spot each time at about 11.5 miles of the 12 miles. Had to be in park to start back up, it'd crank in neutral, but wouldn't fire.

I'd trade in, but the truck is in otherwise perfect condition inside and out, and engine doesn't use a bit of oil.

Please help diagnose before Ford Motor takes me for a ride!

Thanks for all the good reading material to date and thanks in advance for the great advice I'm about to receive.

Hey bwalters,

Try posting this in the engines section. You will get more responses up there. I would take and have the computer checked for codes. Autozone does it for free.
