Question front wheel bearings 4x4

i know someone can tell me to get at the front wheel bearings on my 97 f-150 4x4. do i need any special tools other than i believe a 35 mm socket to get the nut off? thanks...

Nope, the only tools you need is the large socket to get the axle nut off, a smaller wrench for the bolts onthe hub, blade screwdriver, and a hammer. Nothing specialized really. Its only a 30 min job if you've got some mechanical ability and have never done it before.

Hello powerstroke73,

Do the CV Boots need to be removed/replaced when you do the bearings?

No, the only time you touch the CV is to push the splined shaft out of the hub. Thats the only time that you touch it. Just remember when you do that, that you should be pulling the hub assembly off the truck at the same time so that you don't compress or over extend that CV joint. The CV just has a flange that is bolted to the back of the hub assembly, take off those 3 bolts and the 2 should be separated.
