Rear end

Have a 87 Bronco 302 w/8.8 3.55 limited slip rear (okay, its the cuz of the F150) thats blown a Diff bearing and ring/pinion gears are sheared and not sure how much more damage there is. With everything that needs to be replaced and whatever else I may find,(I'll do the work) would it make more $$$ sense to just buy a used rear end and bolt it up, or should I rebuild and maybe gamble??? Any opinions/experience would be most appreciated.
Not a Pro Mech. Thanx

It would be easier and better in the long run to swap axles. Look for an EB 9". They're the right width for a B2 and its close to a bolt up. If you can find one from a 77 EB since they're a big bearing 9".

Edit: Forget what I said, for some reason I thought you said you had a Bronco 2. If you still wanna go with the 9" route, the 78-79 and some of the early 80s Broncos have 9" axles and the 70s F150s had them as well.

If your Bronco has ABS, then switching to a 9" presents a problem. Also 9" swap would require longer driveshaft and pinion angularity would have to be reset. 9" pinion it much lower in the chassis than the 8.8".

If you can do the work yourself; about $800 (U.S.) would get you in a nice L/S, bearing kit and new aftermarket Ring & Pinion. If you decide to re do the 8.8", don't forget new axle bearings and seals.
