Question limited slip

Looking over the options on an 04 screw I see limited slip. Good option to go with? What does it do?

I'll be doing 99% on-road driving, with maybe 12 days on icy roads if that makes any difference.

Limited slip will allow both drive wheels to get power in slippery conditions. Without it, one wheel can get into mud or ice and just spin and not let the truck move. With limited slip, both wheels will get power, helping you to get out in many situations. I wouldn't own a truck without it. But, I wouldn't want a car without it either.

LS is a lot better on wet streets also. No sitting there spinning one wheel at stop signs.

Yeah, because spinning both wheels and having the *** end trade with the front is way better.

Thumbs up

No, what's way better is keeping the accelerator depressed to the point that the rear is breaking away but you control the break direction with countersteer of the steering wheel. With practice, you can wag your tail down the street like a 5 dollar hooker.

Okay, what I extrapolated from everyones' responses is

LS + wet street + counter steer = $5 hooker (and who doesn't like a $5 hooker?)

How can I go wrong with that?!

He would. After all, he did use 'extrapolated' in a sentence.

It's probably just a few hundred dollars for the limited slip option fro the dealer and there wont be any issues regarding warranty. It would be more expensive if you got it installed it on your own or at a competent shop. Get it now from the dealer and you'll be glad you did on the very first of the twelve days this year.

I will digress from commenting on $5 hookers :o although fishtailing in the snow & rain is a lot of fun.

Good luck.

You have to hit it hard to break both wheels lose. Without LS one wheel will break lose all the time. It's well worth the money.

For the money it's one of the better options. Some people claim that the rear end can get away from you on the freeway when it's a llittle slippery but I have personally never experienced this. On very rare occaisions mine has chattered around a slow corner but it's worth it to me to have some peace of mind at the boat ramp since I don't have 4x4.

Tiger, you answered my next question about turning corners. I guess, too then, that wear 'n tear would be a little higher on the drivetrain and wheels. Still sounds like the way to go.

my dealer orders all trucks with LS now. There are downsides to it... like getting used to how the truck will handle in wet conditions. While yes, you do get less slippage off the line, there is a greater chance of loosing the back end (if one wheels looses control the other can as well)
