Unhappy Slip yoke installation

I have a '91 F-150 2wd with a manual transmission and I am trying to replace the slip yoke. The problem is that the rubber seal? on the end of the transmission that the slip yoke fits into is torn and needs to be replaced. However, I can't for the life of me see how to remove the seal. It seems to be held in place with a metal ring and there are indentations on the side of the transmission by the ring where I might be able to pop it off, but I have been reluctant to go bangin' on my transmission. Hopefully someone can help me avoid an expensive trip to a real mechanic

This issue has been dragging on for weeks and I need my truck back now that the snow is flying.

Thanks

The seal is just a pressed fit . I pryed mine out with a screwdriver
and tapped it back in with a deep socket.
