Question Rear Differential Oil seal Replacement

My rear differential oil seal started leaking like a crazy so I need to do a replacement. Is this a tough job? Do I need a puller to get the flange off? I have basic tools and have taken down the driveshaft before to do the `U joints but if it's a real pain job I'd just assume take it in to have it done. thanx!

Which seal are you talking about, the pinion seal, axle shaft seals, or diff cover seal? If its the diff cover its pretty self explanitory. The axle shaft seals you gotta pull the axle shafts out by pulling the c-clips inside the diff and taking off all the brakes. If its the pinion seal then you gotta pull the flange off, but you gotta make sure its torqued right when you reinstall it. This seal by far is the worst of all of them to replace.

If it's the pinion seal, take it in. There's too much to worry about with crush sleeves and pre-load etc. I took mine in and about 6,000 miles later my differential started howling. It got pretty bad, pretty quick. Luckily, the same dealer that did the work originally, covered it under warranty. They put new bearings in it. Good luck!
