Slipping 4x4 Low?

I have a 2000 F150 Lariat 4x4 Ext Cab and when i place in 4x4 low it seems to be slipping. When I release the break and begain to accelerate, the truck strts to move forward and the RMP's increase at what seems to be a higher rate that the vehicle - after a short distance, the tranny changes gears. Now I understand that this is 4x4 low and the concept of a "granny gear", but my previous 4x4's (both Rangers) did not perfrom this way. The used car dealer i purchased it from instists that this is normal. It just feels like to me something is not right - I believe that it should be a firmer pull.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mark

Sounds pretty normal to me. Besides, if there was any "slipping" anywhere in your drive system, it would be most appearent in "high" range (2 or 4) where there was less mechanical leverage.

4 low not right

Mark,
This is a long way down the road from where you posted originally, I have a 2000 F-150 4X4 OffRoad and what you described about 4 low is exactly what I am experiencing. I also had a 4x4 OffRoad Ranger 2001 that 4 low performed nothing like my F-150. I can hear the relays click when I switch to 4 low and even feel and hear what seems to be engagement. But as you stated the truck winds up like it is in low range then shifts up after a short distance. My Ranger never did this - it always acted like it was in pure "granny gear". Last weekend I got stuck in 8 inches of snow on hardly any incline - doesnt seem right for a lifted offroad vehicle.
Thanks in advance for any input.
