Eaton posi unit???

Do they make an Eaton posi unit for the 9 3/4 Ford rear end? I know that Auburn does but I have not been able to find any info on Eaton.

Also, how much is a factory Ford limited slip unit going for now days?

Thanks,

Hello Buckeye Rich,

Yes they do, see below. You could get one installed for about $650-$700, the Ford limited slip (which is not nearly as good) would run you around $900-$1000 if you have a dealer install it.

Thanks for the link! I really hate the open rear end on my truck right now!

Buckeye Rich,

I had a 97 2wd with an open differential, I put an Auburn unit on it and man what an improvement. From what I've heard and read the Eaton Posi is just as good and maybe even better.

Have you thought of picking up a Ford trak-lok at the junkyard and working up the clutches? I have seen several guys do this and you'd swear they have a locker. I personally think that the factory unit is a good deal. If you buy it new when you buy your truck it's around $250. At least it was in 99. Anyway, good luck and don't count out the junkyard for some good stuff cheap!

I have ran an Auburn before, in a Mustang. It didn't last to long...of course that was on slicks and 6000 rpm launches.

For what I do, the factory limited slip would work. I may try and save a little extra money and get an Eaton unit.

What should a used factory unit cost?

If you run the Eaton unit, just be sure to not use synthetic diff. oils, for they will cause the carbon-fiber to swell.
