Question rear axle

Hey wondering,I have a 94 F150xl automatic my rear axle crapped out were do I find the gear ratio id# Also I tow a camper and was wondering if I could lower the gear ratio using a rear axle with a lower gear ratio to give me more torque to pull up hills. Is this possible to go to a different rear axle without any problems. Its a 2whl drive and a really good truck I hate to part with it .

I'm not sure if this holds true for the 94 models, but on the newer trucks the ratio is indicated on a tag attached to one of the cover bolts. A lower gear ratio will definitely help with towing. Lower gears should fit with no problem. I'm sure there are on-line parts retailers with lower gears available for your truck. Changing the gears however, is a bit tricky as there are tolerances that must be maintained very closely. Good luck.

Whats cheaper changing the gears or just getting another rear axle?On what ford would I find a gear ratio lower and would fit on my truck?
