Newbie here with lotsa questions!
Hi guys!
I am tasked with replacing the rear end on my friend's '94 F150XL, 5 liter, 5 spd, 4x4. Can you folks tell me:
1) What rear end does the truck likely have? Is it an 8.8?
2) Were the same rears and gear ratios offered in 2wds and 4x4s?
3)What gear ratios were offered with this truck?
4) Is there a good online seller of either used or new complete rear end assemblies?
I can't inspect the vehicle until next week, but I would like to be able to start orderering parts now, if possible. Also, is there a tag on the diff or something that would have this info? If so, can you tell me exactly where. The vehicle's owner is not a car guy and he will need very specific instructions if he is going to find the info for me.
Thanks alot!

Truck should have 8.8" Ford.
4x4 and 2WD had different ratios. Common 4x4 usually ran 3.55. 2WD could be 3.08, 3.55, 3.73 or 4.10.
There should be a tag affixed to diff. cover that should state ford assembly code, diff. ring gear diameter, ratio, and production code. Example: S175C (code). 4B01 (assembled 2/01/94). 88355 (8.8", 3.55 ratio). 883L55 would denote factory L/S, 3.55 ratio.
I do not know of any retailer of complete drum to drum reman differentials; however. local salvage yards should be able to produce a used drum to drum assembly. You may purchase a used diff. that is close to what you have (needing repair). If you lived close to me, I could point you in a direction locally that may save you time & $$$. Good luck, gearman
