2001 supercrew
Hey guys just sold my 93 f150 and purchased a 2001 supercrew with a 5.4 liter it only has 29000 miles and is in perfect shape. My question is I am running 315-75-16 with a 3.55 rear gear what would be a good gear choice to get the truck about stock with these tires?? I put a 4.56 with an eaton posi in my last truck while running 35's and really liked the way the truck performed. It only had a 302.

Thanks for the advise, do you think that goin with a 4.56 would be alright and not have the engine reving to high at freeway speeds. My 302 revved quite a bit but it needed to due to the work it had done to it. I also plan on going with the eaton locker again.
thanks

Man I love this site everyone is so eager to help and have so much knowlegde. My truck feels a little sluggish off the line but screams after 25 mph, is that due to the larger tires or are the 5.4 naturally that way?? I have installed a K&N air intake system and a full 3 inch exhaust, along with cutting out the y pipe and replacing it with a larger one. What programmer works best on this truck, I have heard one of the programmers will not let you change your speedometer after a gear swap any of that true.
Thanks again for all the info

I agree, this is a great site. Your tire height is the sluggish culprit. I had all of your same mods on my 2000 5.4 F-150. I went from 3.55's to 4.10's with stock tire height and it really woke the truck up. I had a single program Superchip with a custom program to fix the speedometer. I've had good luck with Superchips in a number of vehicles. The standard Superchips can be custom programmed and the tuners can adjust for tire height and gear ratio changes. I saw the 1970 Ranchero in your sig. I've owned a number of 1970-1971 Torino Cobras and Mercury Cyclone Spoilers, so, I get it.

thanks for all the info, think I am going to go back to the 4:56 ratio front and rear. What would be a good gear manufactuer, the last time I used superior and really liked them, along with the eaton posi unit. The 70 ranchero has a 351w pushing around 450 horse, but soon it will be replaced with a 650 hp 408 stroker. Gotta love the look of that front end. Back to the 01 think I am going to use the hypertech chip though. Talked to a couple guys around here and they ran the superchips tuner and switched to hypertech.
Thanks again
