Differential Oil Change

It's time to change my rear Diff Gear oil. I changed the Gears from 3.31 to 4.10's 500 miles ago. Yukon say's to change the oil out after the 500 mile break in period.

My questions:

1. What synthetic oil should I use?

2. Should I do this myself or should I have the shop that did the gear swap change the oil?

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks

Jeff

Changing the oil is not that hard but you might opt to have the shop inspect the gears when the cover is off unless you feel confortable that everthing is fine back there. If thats the case, do it your self. It will give you a chance to eyeball their work. Any synthetic gear oil that meets ford's spec will be fine but many people have their favorites. Look at the tag on the cover or in the book for the oil weight, just make sure that if you have a LS that you add ford's friction modifier. The number for that is in the owners manual. I used Red Line 75w140 oil which is nice because they incorporate the friction modifier into the oil when its bottled. They also have a 75w140ns oil without the modifer. In my area napa caries it at about $9.00 a qt. Good luck
