Well, I have a few hudred miles on the so called fix. The whine is still evident, now it begins at 50 mph instead of 40 and stays a whining till about 60 mph. It isn't as loud now, but still there. Guess I will live with it till trade in time.

I'm not giving up

I've got another tech test for tomorrow. This is such a pain in the butt. Everytime I go over there, it takes 4 hrs out of my working day. Plus I don't have my truck for a couple of days. There going to fix it or I'm going invoke the lemon law.

I feel your pain, Iv'e been through the aggravation myself. Iv'e had all the bearings, ring and pinion changed and a new driveshaft . Still have the whine. I finally gave up, It's not right but I kinda got used to it and don't hardly hear it anymore. Hope it all works out for you.

Did 3rd tech test on the whine

Tech says yes the whine is still there. He going to contact ford because he done everything he can. He says they (ford) might send an entire new rearend that has been pretested and to install it.

So now I'm waiting for a decision.

BTW got another problem with light front brake shudder. Tech says he replace or turn rotors depending how much pad is left. Tech says if rotors run out more than 3 thousands then you'll get shudder. Sometimes I can lockup drivers side front brake yet ABS light does not come on to indicate a problem.

I've got 13000 miles I'm wondering if I'll make the 3/36000.

i've been waiting for the last 2 weeks and the parts still haven't showned up. i know darn well this is only a temporary fix.

mmrich i know exactly what you are saying. i'm getting close to the end of my warranty. i'm going to pruchase the extended warranty just because of the all the problems that i have had.

now i have rust starting on the inside of the doors i even had the truck oil sprayed before the 2 winters i have had it. i also noticed the other day when my wife was driving it and i was following her that the back of the truck is 1/2" lower on the drivers side compared to the passenger side. the bumpers are even on both sides. i decided to crank up the torsion bars to level it out hoping that this would correct it, wrong. i made sure all the tires had the same air pressure before i started and measured from the rim to the lip of the fender. now i have 3 that are exactly the same and one is lower. i checked the rear end to see if it was level and it was. i set the level on the bumper and it's off so i set it on the top of the tailgate and it's also off. the only thing i can think of is that the leaf springs are sagged on that side or the shock is screwed up. i'll try switching the shocks to see if that does anything before i bring it in next week to have the oil changed.

my 97 f150 also has the whine you are describing, i had the rear drum off the rear inspecting the shoes and noticed about 1/8 to 3/16 of axle end play(in and out). Is this normal? could my whine be coming from this. If ford has recognized the problem will this be a warrenty fix? This axle endplay has me a bit nervous about a rear end rebuilt

2004 f150 Axle Whine

I purchased a New F150 LSCREW in Feb 2004 and began noticing a Whine coming from the Rear-End at multiple speeds after approximately 12K-14K Miles. The best description is a Gear Tip-In Whine during acceleration that sounded like tire road noise. (or a group of Suzuki Motorcycles chasing me) I took it to the dealer and they rebuilt the entire Rear-End...Ring, Pinion, Clutches, etc. Now I have approximately 18K Miles and I am beginning to notice a SLIGHT WHINE at 46-47 MPH and a more intense whine at 71-72 MPH. Outside these ranges it seems ok, but I think I can still hear a faint whine...from 50-60 MPH. I took the truck back today and they stated the whine is within Fords' window of tolerance. Not mine; I am calling Ford in the morning to discuss this issue. Also, I had a lurking feeling when braking...they replaced the Front Rotors...brakes are fine now...

Outside of this, gas mileage is poor..yuk
