1976 F350 460 4bbl C6 rear end??

What rear end is likely to be used with a 1976 F350 that has a 460 with the C6 transmission. I'm acquiring the 460 and C6 and am thinking maybe I should get the rear end as well. Is it likely to be a 9" or something else?? It's for a future drag racing project ('66 Comet). Tks for any responses

Considering that it's a one-ton, I'd assume it has a D60... but I could be wrong.

Yeah, if it's 8 lug and big block, it's more than likely a Dana 60...

I had a '78 F250 with a 460 (borrowed out of a 77 lincoln). Two wheel drive, open rear end. Gearing was tall but that is typical for most trucks here in the South. Most 2wd trucks here have an open rear end and highway gearing. That truck would pass anything but a gas station.

A nine inch rear will take about anything that the 460 can dish out. You'll be ok.

the 9" will hold up if the 460 is stock but if you are gonna build a drag motor you will need to spend some money on it i had a basically stock 460 in my 77 for years with 38"swampers never had a problem well maybe a few but from using junkyard thirdmembers and bashing on weekends built a 450hp 460 and exploded the 9" rearend the locker decided to lock while i was doing a burnout on street swapped in a dana60 and havent had any trouble with it looking back i think i would have rather built a 9" to hold up but i had the 60 setting there and liked the full floter for big tires just my $.02
