Time to change the fluid in my `99 Expedition's transfer case. Is this a simple drain and refill, or is there anything difficult about it?

 

The most difficult part about it is getting a funnel into the filler hole and not spilling any fluid. Make sure to use regular mercon when changing it and not mercon 5. Other than that it is just a normal drain and refill

 

They make these great little gadgets for filling an auto tranny that consist of a nozzle that screws onto the bottle with a tube on it. Works great for filling tcases too. Might want to shorten the tube a little to make it easier to get up in there.

 

I have a 1998 Ford F-150 and I wanted to change the transfercase oil and i wanted to know what oil i should use in it? thanks

Perhaps the owner's manual is not an option ( it's gone AWOL).

Lifted: Use any good quality Mercon tranny fluid. Synthetic would be my choice - Mobil1, Amsoil, etc.

Approx 2.27 litres ( that's 2.4 quarts) for a fill.
