Question Lower gears w/ 35" tires

Got a few questions. I know alot of them are addressed elsewhere but I have noticed that alot of guys have the identical truck w/ the same tires, so I want to hear it from the guys who know.

I have a '02 F150 Supercrew, 5.4L engine, exhaust, intake, 3.55 gears, and 35" tires.

It is slow now so I want to get some power back, so:
1) What gears should I get to go back to stock configuration?
2) I lost gas mileage when I got bigger tires, is it going to be alot worse than it is now if I go with lower gears?
3) How much is it going to cost? Average.

Thanks alot,
Matt

1. 4.56 will put you right around stock give or take 100 rpm
2. no, you might actually get better gas mileage especially city driving, because you will need less throttle to get moving
3. to have a shop do it $300-600 per axle labor depending on location
hope this helps

That helps out alot. Thanks.

How complicated is the labor involved? I guess an ameteur mechanic like myself shouldn't take on this task, huh?

One more question:

Where should I look to find good gears? What are some reputable brands? I do mostly on road driving, but I don't have those 35s for nothing (if it matters...???)

Thanks again,
Matt

genuin gear yukon are the two brands i have used in my vehicles, if you have never done gears in a rear end i would find a freind that has to help you(one you trust) you will also need some speceal tools not every shade tree mech has, bearing press dail indocater and a backlash indicator, it is a very time consuming job that requirs lots of patience, you might have to pull the diff out a couple of times to get baclash and shim depth correct, good luck
