no more motorcraft....

Air filter for my truck, motorcraft, $45.00 at A ford dealer here in CAlgary Alberta.....Bought a fram at Canadian tire for $16.00..Stay away from ford dealers ( Unless Warenty ) for basic maintence items...Fram or purolater may just make motorcraft air/oil filters...

To reiterate many posts here...at US $32.49, a lifetime K&N air filter is a bargain.

With all due respect, you bought a $20 or 30-something thousand dollar truck, and you're upset over $45.00 Canadian for an air filter?

Wait 'till that thing runs out of warranty. You ain't seen nothin' yet, bubba.

I think L.B.'s point is the rip-off price of the OEM filter, not the cost relative to the price of the vehicle.

I'm equally offended at the profiteering of my local Ford dealer that charges $6.00/QT for Motorcraft 5W20 oil that can be bought for less than $2.00 (formerly $1.77 @ WallyWorld) from other sources.

Needless to say, I do much of my own routine maintenance and purchase products that are fairly priced, e.g. Magnaflow 15834 @ $383 vs. $479, etc. etc.

In that regard, I suppose it'd make sense. I get my stuff for cost plus 10%, and some things, if I get brownie points for the parts department, are freebies.

Be happy you don't own a 6 liter Powerstroke...the OEM air filters for those things are like $100 I think.

Where the heck are you paying $6.00 a quart for 5w20? I pay $28.00 for two 5 quart bottles at the dealer.

Castrol Syntec Blend 5W20, which meets/exceeds FoMoCo specs and retails for $2.99, can be had for under $2.00 on sale. There is, of course, no technical/engineering/warranty reason to not use the more-available 5W30 oil in your rig...the real issue is CAFE related, not lubrication sufficiency.

But if you lived in a hot climate or towed alot, then i would say throw some 10-30w, the weight will keep your engine lubricated a little bit more than a lighter weight.

For me its 5-20w in the winter 30-70F and 10-30w in the summer (boat season) and its about 70-105F

And if you lived in a cold climate, 0-20w for sure, easy startups in below freezing temps

well quintin, you have to buy air/oil filterss for your f-150 as well, and if your ok paying dealer markup on maintence items fine by me, a 16.00 (cdn) filter is still cheaper than a 45.00(cdn) filter, 29.00 adds up.....also I doubt the extra 29 bucks buy's me a better filter....dose buy 29.00 worth off gas, 29.00 worth of beer, ect, ect. Same will appy in US. money, you can keep your money in your pocket.

All I ever hear is how crappy K&N's products are. They let WAY too much particle through.

i've been running K&N's since 1986 or 87 and never had any problems or issues concerning the filters. great product and does what it's suppose to which is to keep the crap out and runs better for far less money in the long run.
