installing new gears, ford 8.8
i have a 92 f150, i just got 4.56 gears for the rear end and i am having a little trouble installing the pinion gear. i had the bearing closest to the teeth pressed on and kept the bearing that is already in the differential housing. i am using the plate the driveshaft mounts to and the nut to pull the pinion shaft into the smaller bearing. is this the correct procedure? is there some other way i can go about doing this. need the info.......thanks for any help.

The pinion gear itself should slide in easily. You may as well replace the front pinion bearing and seal as well, you've already got it torn all the way down. Do not use the pinion flange and nut to pull the pinion gear into place until you've got the pinion gear seated fully into the race. It should just kinda plop into place. Once the gear is in place, using the pinion nut to pull the flange down is okay. You did hammer the old bearing races out and install new ones in the housing, right?
