Gears Changed
Well I now have the new 3.55 gears installed in my truck. The man at the shop thought that on the 2001 f150 unhooking the battery to let the computer reset would correct the speedo. But I left it unhooked all night and the speedo is still 10 mph too fast. What do I need to do to correct this?

Hello cwrhnr,
To re-adjust the speedo for new gears requires a change to your trucks computer settings, just disconnecting the battery will not do it. You can take it to a dealer and have them do it or you can purchase a programmer like Superchips or Hypertech and do it your self.

1. Get a Speeding Ticket.
2. Re-program truck(4.10 gears instead of actual 3.55 etc...)
3. Truck reads 10-15 mph too slow.
4. Spend $25 for calibration documenting that speedo off.
5. Go to Court, Case dismissed.
6. Re-program truck for correct gear.
7. Get Speeding Ticket (repeat 1-6).

Yeah went with the 3.55, just had them put in Monday, and Tuesday. I can feel a difference in the truck. I am only actually runnning about 300 rpm more at 65 w/OD on. And I really wouldn't worry to much about the speedo because I know how much off it is thanks to a good GPS. But the mileage will add up faster is the worry I have. One local dealer said they will adjust it for about $75, that's not too bad. And you are right gears are cool. I can't wait till they are good and broke in to see how it acts with the camper now. Thanks
