easy way to tell what diffs i have?
im trying to figure out what type of diffs (size as well as open or trak-lock) i have. my truck is a 2000 XLT "4x4 OFF ROAD" if that means any thing (let me know if it does, im curious). so is there any way to tell from this info? of any other easy way to find out?

thank you very much! i do have LS! so does it just really suck? because i had my truck high centered with the FR and RL tires in the air and all that happened was that the tires in the air spun and i didnt get any traction. i had to jack myself out of it and it was lame. i had an old Suburban (1990) with LS that i could do the same thing to (i beat the sh*t out of that thing and it took it amazingly well) and it would pull right out no problem. im rather disappointed with the way the ford handled it.

It is normal for this to happen with a Limited Slip Differential. Next time it happens, lightly apply the parking brake. This will apply braking force to the wheel in the air and help transfer power to the wheel on the ground. The only way to fix this is to replace the LSD with a Locking differential.

I also have limited slip ( h9) is does suck in the mud but as JMC said if your tweaked just a little brake pressure sometimes lightly pump the break to get both tires in contact with the ground again. all it does is slow the in air wheel down and send a little pressure to the on ground wheel, hopefully enough to make it move a bit.
