stuck in 4x4
I have a 97 off road f150 and my truck is stuck in 4 wheel drive. it is not just the light that is on, but it actually is in 4 wheel. i have a 4 hour drive ahead of me in a couple hours, it wouldnt be fun to drive all that way in 4 wheel.
i am going to post this in a couple other places on this sit also, so sorry for the repeats if you see them too.
thanks for any help!!

well, the problem is kind of beyond that now, I have tried all that kind of stuff. I have backed up, drove on rough road, shifting back and forth, etc. i dont know if there is a leak in a vaccuum hose of a problem with the linkage that changes from 2 to 4 wheel drive.
What I really need now is a way to manually disengage the 4x4 if I can. It is push button 4x4, and not manual shift.

If you have a U joint style shaft, you could always remove the front shaft.
Otherwise, look at the xfer case and there should be a linkage on it that shifts it. Unplug it and see if you can manually turn it back the other way. I've done it before on jeeps, but they never had any electronic stuff on them

I want to know how in the workd he's got a push-button system on a '97???
Now, assuming it's the ESOF on a '97, you can remove the shift motor, and manually turn the shaft back to 2wd. In lieu of that, you can swap the two vacuum lines on the solenoids on the passenger side of the firewall. That will un-lock the center-axle disconnect and let you drive the 4 hours as necessary.
