Question Clunking Sound From The Rear

When I Shift My Truck From Park To Reverse Or Drive And When I Brake To A Complete Stop I Hear A Clunking Sound From The Rear. I Took It To The Shop And Had Them Check It Out. They Said It's Something In The Rear Axle. I Was Advised To Take It To The Dealership Because It's Still Under Warranty. But, I Recently Lifted (suspension) My Truck. Does A Lift Void Warranties? Also, Has Anyone Had This Problem With The Clunking Sound From The Rear? Thanks!

I've heard the clunk on a few older trucks and it is never good. You'll most likely be getting a rebuilt rearend.Check your ujoints may be defective.I'd hafta go with it's in the rear if your joints are good.As far as the lift. How high of a lift.I think a dramatic driveline angle change may lead to problems down the road but smaller lifts generally don't effect the angle enough to cause a major rearend failure.Could be green gears ya never know .

I had the clunk sound in my trucks rear end. It made this noise when I either accelerated or turned. At the end...The spider gears and housing where broken inside the Diff. ANd replaced it with a Heavy duty Positract unit. Good luck!

I brought my truck in as I had warranty on the drive line. It needs a new rear end, as the diffs and axles were shot. The u joints were gone too, go figure. So its all being replaced. Gotta love that.

Depending on the size of your lift it is probably the front u-joint coming out of the transmission(2wd) or transfer case(4wd) this is a common problem on vehicles lifted 6 inches or higher and sometimes on a smaller lift depending on abuse. Make sure you purchase a heavy duty u-joint if they need replacing. If the defect was caused by the lift the dealer probably won't honor the warranty.
