Rejuvenate my 99 4x4 w/ 100,000 miles

Just wondering if anyone can provide some tips/advice as to some things I could do to get my 99 4.6L 4x4 w/100,000 miles a little "rejuvenated". I've kept up on the basics, and recently changed plugs and cleaned the throttle body, because it was starting to feel a bit sluggish. Things feel smoother, but still a bit sluggish. No aftermarket products installed (yet).

Just looking for some information on what others have done around 100,000 to keep things in good shape (or get them BACK in good shape), and ensure many more happy years with my F150.

Thanks, in advance.

First, i would suggest a Seafoam treatment. search the boards for the specifics.

Next, i would check the entire front end (tie rod ends, Ball joints, wheel bearings, brakes).

Going further, i would change all fluids front to rear using a HIGH quality products/oil. "royal purple" and "amsoil" come to mind.

Seafoam Go up to the "engines" section and read all about it. Great stuff.

I replace a lot of the front-end last year (including ball joints, shocks, etc). Very noticeable improvement after the work.

Thanks for the tip on the Seafoam, I'll check it out

Lol.. St. Chuck, I'm quite close to you actually - Dardenne Prairie. I listed St. Louis out of habit.

So, look around for the shiniest Red 1999 4x4 F150 you've ever seen.. that'll be me!

I'm only out in that area about once or twice a year for a Christmas party at the KC hall. Let me know if you need some help with the SeaFoam, it's pretty easy, even Mattineer could do it without messing much up.

Thanks. A co-worker/neighbor of mine has a 99 as well, and we tend to see/fix the same problems together. (Nice to know Ford builds things "consistent"). We'll probably tackle SeaFoam in a couple weeks.

Smile

There is alot of good advice given here, BUT.......I think Seafoam is more "snake oil" than anything else.

Seafoam makes you feel like you did something, when really you didn't. If you cleaned the throttle body, and did plug/wires, why would you need to run Seafoam through your system??

Do a search on Seafoam and form your own opinion. I'd be worried about fouling one of those new plugs with that stuff though.

$0.02 given

Don't knock it til you've tried it, and I've tried it, my friend. I'll never smoke weed with Willie again...
I did it a few weeks after I put in my new Denso Iridium Spark Plugs ($10 a pop!)
And the SeaFoam cleans everything from the throttle body back. SeaFoam made a bigger difference than did changing the plugs and cleaning the throttle body.

Finally!

5 months later (lol!), problem solved. Fuel filter helped but spark plug wires made it a new truck!

Changed the fuel filter about a month ago, and the sluggishness turned to shuddering/misfiring shortly afterwards (especially on hills).

Never threw any codes, though.

Thanks for the help, all.

Been there, tried that. Only thing it did was keep my truck from dying on a COLD COLD COLD morning start up. SeaFoam works better IMO.
