Clunk in drivetrain

Hi there, Ive got a 2000 f150 with about 110,000 miles on it. I've got a slight pause in aceleration and a clunk when the power seems to engage the rear wheels. I've got no other transmission problems that i aware of, it shifts normally under easy or hard acceleration. It also seems to happen after coasting at times.

I read a post about a similar sounding problem in the transmission forum, something about the splines on the transmission output shaft? Does anyone think that this is my problem as well? and if so is it an expensive fix? Any other possibilities?

Thanks, AL

Ya this is a common problem. My 99 does this also. It's always done it for the 4 years I've owned it. The only thing I've read on here to fix it is to lube the spline very good with a quality grease.

However I was searching on here and I found this. Using a rubber ball from a kids jacks game for a cushion?

My 4x4 acts like that when the transfer case fluid needs to be changed.

2 quarts of Amsoil Mercon V quiets and smooths things out.

But the driveshaft silp yoke lube is another thing to do/test/try.
