Lateral movement of rear wheel?

I have just changed the pads on the rear and notice movement side to side from the wheel the bearings feel as fine as the day they left the factory
Being based in the UK im used to little tin boxes with front wheel drive so have no experience of rear axles to know what is normal and what is not
Is this normal????
2005 F-150 4x4 5.4 XLT is the truck

The rear axles use roller (flat) bearings, not tapered. I (personally) would not worry about a little in and out of the housing movement, NOW up and down (or a growl) should be investigated.

Preventative Maintenance (PM), and attention to the details of your truck will ensure a long service life.

I'm not too worried just wondered if it is normal?
Like I said i'm used to Euro tin box front wheel drive chunks of crap
Is there a lateral bearing inside the axle to stop this movement that could be buggered???? stabbing in the dark now

Thankyou

Yes, it's normal. If you see an exploded diagram of the diff, or ever get a chance to take it apart, you'll understand why that is. Any c-clip retained axle (Ford 8.8 or 9.75, for example) will have a little bit of movement. Completely normal.

Just out of curiousity...how do you find the Ford in terms of quality compared to all the European cars (even the nicer German ones) ?

And overall, what do Europeans think of Fords compared to Japanese and European cars?

Everyone who sees the truck first thing they say is "must cost you a bloody fortune to run, parts are expensive blah blah blah and arrr American build quality"
But
Everyone who has been in the truck are amazed at how quite and well built the truck is everyone is also surprised how such a big thing can go so fast!
I have owned BMW's Hondas Rovers and various other Fords I have to say that the truck is on parr with everything I have previously owned
As for Ford in Europe they sell shovel loads of em most popular cars in the UK every other car is a focus or a Fiesta (my wife owns a Fiesta!)
I can honestly say my F-150 is quiter and less hassle to own than my old 5 series
The parts are stoopidly cheap and easy to buy as well for example oil filter £6.56 air filter £18.99 compared to the wifes Fiesta oil filter £12.99 air filter £22.99!!!! windscreen for F-150 £250 windscreen for Fiesta £870!!!!!
Everyone over here should get wise and buy F-150's
The only thing I do not like about the truck is when you hoof it around a corner the back skips a bit gotten used to it now but still thats the only thing I dont like
The best part is all the Range Rover owners get p*ssed when I leave em at the lights

haha, well that's good to hear! I had to decode the european lingo...I am guessing windscreens are windshields here in the states, heh.

I had a buddy go to England a few years back and he said that Ford's had some form of prestige in Europe since they were imported. Interesting.

Well I'm glad you enjoy it!
