Belt squeel

I have a 99 F-150, it is all stock. The problem is on a 1-2 shift a WOT the belt squeels. It has a new belt, new tensioner, new idler and a new clutch fan. Does anyone else have this problem? Are there any aftermarket kits to help with belt tension, or make the belt wrap further around the accessories? Anyone's advice would be great, thanks, MIKE

I also vote for the GatorBack belt. It just has better traction.

Ditto. Goodyear Gatorback solves that problem 99.9 times out of 100.

I think if you already forked out the cash for a new belt, just keep you're foot off the go juice. Otherwise live with it like I do. It's not really a big deal and when the time comes, then try the Gatorback. Mine does exactly the same thing and still everything is 100%.

I've got a shift kit and a Banks Trans-Command so the shifts vary from nearly unnoticeable to 2nd gear chirp with my 97 Expedition. For about 20,000 miles I had a bad squeal at shift. I just went from the Gates belt to a Dayco Gold Label belt from CarQuest for $42.33. The PN is 5080990 and no squeal. I do get asked every time I look for a belt what length it is. I don't know the 2 sizes offered off hand but one of them is 1" longer than the other. The shorter one is the one I need. Maybe you got the wrong belt by mistake and the longer belt is slipping. I wouldn't think a new belt of the right length would slip without a shift kit.

Very true. The belt squeal won't hurt anything, it's just annoying. Just turn up the music louder.

Thanks to all who replied. I know It is not hurting anything, but it is anoying. Ill try a gator back after a while. I got the guys at Car Quest to trade me the belt I just bought for one that is just alittle smaller, we'll see how that works out. I'll post back to tell you guys what happened, thanks again, MIKE

GO figure, smaller belt.... still squeeled, not as bad though. I bit the bullet and bought a Gatorback.....YEAH, no more squeel. Atleast the guys at CQ gave me my money back for the other belt. Thank you guys for all of your input!
