rear end leaking
i have noticed not only on my truck but on many others, that the rear axle on most of these trucks looks like it has a leak. i always have my axles serviced when i change my oil, so i would think if any of my axles were leaking they would let me know. perhaps it is just a build up or road grime and oils from the road that are gathering on the rearend. i have never noticed drips or oil stains on my driveway.

It's common on a LOT of trucks.
I suggest giving your differential a thorough cleaning (pressure washer, some simple green, and maybe even a scrub brush) so you can get a fresh start.
Then watch to see if it starts to get dark and wet looking again. If so, it may need to be re-sealed, or possibly have the housing "sanded" and sealed.

look at any older truck there is almost a stain on the cover from when the fluid was changed. it can stay there for years. gear oil is tough stuff. the cover could have a tiny pinhole rusted thru and is leaking. had a oil pan that did that once.usually rear end leaks at the axle seals in to the drums from what ive experienced.
