Electronic 4x4 not engaging (Hit it with a hammer!)
My 4wd would not engage similar to all the threads here.
Called the dealer to see if there was a "Trick" to get it working since there was a huge ice storm going on.
Dealer says (again this is during an ice storm)
Dealer: "Its because its cold out it may be frozen"
Me: "Its only 26 degrees, worked fine in lake placid at -15
Dealer: "Still take a mallet to the xfer case"
Me: "Why"
Dealer: "sometimes that unstucks it"
Me: "ok thanks"
Drove home in 2wd.... Didn't work for days then all of the sudden it starts working again.
Looking through this section this seems to be a common problem. How many have had this issue?
Anyone have a solution?

An '06 is a slightly different beast. However, using a hammer to un-stick it, whether it works or not, is indicative of a problem (either with the putz dispensing the advice, or with the system itself!!).
Troubleshooting an intermittent problem like that can be difficult at best, unless it's an obvious issue (like damaged wiring, or a crushed connector, etc...). The system is electronically controlled, so if they connect it and everything checks out and the system works like it should, odds are they're not going to be able to do much.
Now, if you manage to get it to them when it's not working, it makes it MUCH easier to troubleshoot. Unfortunately there aren't many stealerships that take walk-ins like that LOL.
