The only way to be SURE is to pull the cover & look. But you can read the AXLE code from the door sticker, or the ID tag on the axle itself, or jack up both rear wheels (chock the fronts) & try to spin one with the trans in P.

Thats why im curious. I have a manual trans and i had to do a tranny swap. While it was up i had to remove the driveshafts and i noticed that when i turned the drive shaft that the passenger rear tire would spin and hte driver side rear wouldn't spin at teh same rate. I could even keep it from spinning just by holding it with my hand. What does this mean?

It either means you have an open diff, or a SEVERELY worn-out LSD.
The only way to be SURE is to pull the cover & look.

do you know what axle code the lsd and open are. I code look then and find out for sure. That way i can decide if its worn or if thats just the way it is.

So i found out that i have a 3.55 open axle. If i understand that it means that my truck is geared really high right. As far as compared to 4.10's i would be able to go faster and have a lower amount of RPM's then 4.10's right?

I would like to keep the same gearing and switch it to a lsd. How hard would that be and about how much would it cost?
