Floor shift 4x4

I have a floor shift in my 97 and its beginning to get hard to pull in and out of 4 hi and 4 low is almost impossible. Could the linkage be the issue. When i apply force it goes right in and out but I'm to old for this crap!!!

Sometimes it takes a little longer to get a reply. Just hang in there.
The linkage needs some lubrication. Climb under and see where the pivoting spots are and lube um up. Then get in the cab and run it thru the positions a whole lot.
I was looking at a used truck 6 mos ago and had the same thing. I sat in the driveway and forced it back and forth about a hundred or so times. It worked fine after that but some grease would have been beeter to do first.
I was afraid to shift the 4x4 for fear of breaking it, it was so hard!
