From 8.8 to 9 inch

I have a 1994 F150 regular cab 2wd long box with a 4 speed (no overdrive) that I swapped in place of the 5-speed Mazda tranny. The rear is currently an 8.8. I have a spare 9 inch rear end and am wondering about swapping. It appears the drive shaft needs to be longer than the one I have. Can I get my drive shaft lengthened or is there a drive shaft I can get from Ford already the right length?

Thanks

The 9" is a weaker axle, and it lacks the ABS sensor your truck needs. There's no way to add one, and your ABS & cruise won't work without it.

There's absolutely no advantage to the 9". If your current axle is bad, find a good one just like it. They're common & cheap.

Thanks for the reply but I know the 9 inch is a lot stronger than the 8.8. That's why the mud bogging guys like them rear ends so much. The question was about a longer drive shaft. I have heard they can be lengthened but I never verified this.
