Gears
****posting for a friend******
I know this topic has been beat down, but i have a unique situation. I have an 8" rize on 37" toyos on 22" rims DC with the 5.4L. I have been more than happy with everything, but next i need gears. I have been told by half the people i need 4.56's and half say i need 4.88's. I probably do about half highway and half city driving, so what gear ratio do i need? I am leaning toward the 4.88's because they would be more torquie and i want to be able to get out of those quicker situations. I plan on staying with this susp/tire/wheel setup long term.
what is the best brand of gears?
What should i expect to pay for them installed?
thanks for you time!

4.88 would get you almost at your stock rpm, 4.56 would be below stock rpm, the cost of install veries by location, but expect to pay between $200-500 per axle for labor. presision gear makes the best qaulity gears IMO but i have had genuin 4.88 in my axles for 40k miles and they are showing no sighns of wear and there is no nise just the smalest amount of off throttle wine. but some noise can be expected from higher numerical gears. good luck
