These two units are similar, but I haven't seen the torsen for the 9.75, only the true trac. I'm still looking around though.

Thanks for the reply T-roy.
you guys know the detroit locker is being revised to incorporate the eaton no-spin unit into it? IE: automatic locker.

i did not get a production date, however, i do have a hint in front of me in my manual.

i assume this only applies to certain axles at the moment until they decide to change them over.

example in the manual:
"New IMPROVED Detroit Locker differential models in the 187S and 225S Series have an "L" added to the model number, such as 187SL-16A they replace the previous model"

my interjection: ours for the 8.8 appears to be a 187C-16A

edit: C stands for the c-clip retained axles

also, how to tell when your a redneck? well you have a detroit locker pre assembled with ring gear, tone ring and new bearings sitting on a paper towel on your kitchen table. meanwhile your watermelon sits without a papertowel.

mmmm, sexy!
I've decided I'm going to go with the true trac front and rear along with 4.56 gears. Anyone have anything to say about precision (brand) gears?

no comment on the gears, not familiar. but i will point out the true trac is ONLY a limited slip. it will only help so much offroad. my locker free wheels if it needs to.

hmmm, good point. I think I'll have to reconsider that choice.
I've got time since so far the cheapest quote I've got for labor on both axles $1500 dollars
