Cool Aftermarket differentials, ring & pinions, etc...

Hello all...I took delivery of my 2000 F-150 Lariat 4X4 Styleside yesterday...AWESOME ... rides much better than my 95 Bronco EB. Interior fit and finish is also much better than the previous generation Fords.

My truck has the stock 3.55 open rear end (bummer!!), and I want to put either an Auburn or Detroit TrueTrac limited slip in. Does anyone have any recommendations either way? I have heard that the Auburn units wear out their clutch plates faster that the Detroit's (?). Any suggestions on decent mail order places to get differentials would be helpful. I assume that the rear end of the 2000 F-150's is the same 9-bolt that came with the 97-99's, so there should be no problem getting an aftermarket unit(?).

BTW....the MUTH (spelling?) signal mirrors that came with the 99 (98's?) Lariats has been replaced for 2000. Instead of the red direction LED's being placed within the signal mirrors, they now extrude from the rear of the side mirrors and are bulb lit (still red). The dealer indicated that Ford had a lot of warranty issues with the previous versions. I'm not sure if the Expeditions will carry the change as well.

Thanks for any help and sorry for the long note!!!

Auburns wear out faster than a cheap pair of socks, don't waste your money.
Since you've got the open rear, check out the Powertrax locker. Don't know anyone who has one, but price is right and it's allegedly a home install since you don't change the ring and pinion setup. Anyone out there got experience with them?

Here is a little info for you. I have a 97 F150 with the 5.4l engine and the 9.75" rear end. I have not been able to find a locker for this differential yet. I have talkd to Detroit, Powertrax, Auburn and a few other manufacturers and none of them are offering a locker for this rear end yet. Powertrax has been telling me that thy will have one out in two or three months since January. I have been told that ARB has a kit for our trucks, but I have not been able to locate the kit and I am not about to spend the money on the ARBs front and rear because I can swap out the rear end for cheaper than the whole setup. Powertrax has a unit out for the front differential. When I talked to Powertrax today I was told that it would be introduced in late November, but I am not holdinng my breath. Here is the number for Powertrax if you want to contact them 1-800-562-5377. If you find a locker please let me know.

I found something!!!! Randy's Ring and Pinion (http://www.ring-pinion.com/) lists a TracLock locker for the 9.75" rear end. I don't know how much it costs, but I will contact them and post the info I get.

From the name, that could simply be a standard Ford Traction-Lok sold as an aftermarket kit.

Yep, I agree, but I think it is a true Trac Lok from Dana Spicer, but I am not sure. I previously posted that it was a locker, but it is a Limited Slip unit. I will contact them on Monday and get some more info.
